Jammy Shit.....

Putsborough Childrens

Charity match 2008

well we headed up to Putsborough for some Ray bashing for the Bristol childrens hospital charity Match.

with 45 anglers Turning up all from the WSF and most of us knowing each other from the forum, it was a good Bunch of Lads mostly local with a few from Cornwall and a chap from wales.... nearly everyone caught EXCEPT me..... didnt even get a soddin bite! :-( with Bass being caught mostly and the odd Ray showing, the conditions wer spot on! a hour before low water and i was ready and eager to wack into some Raymonds....

Then the good old sky cleared and ruined the fishing, the moon was shining and you didnt even need a head lamp! this killed the ary fishing with only schoolys and a sly smoothound showing, that was it! a lad next to me sneaked a tiny 6oz red gurnard!

My Dad on the other hand managed to blag himself a 6lb conger which happened to b the biggest fish caught winning him the biggest fish cup.... was not happy! well the match finished with everyone having a great night even though i didnt even ahve a bite! never mind next time hay

Exeter showing its true Colours...

Big Pike showing again!!

My Pikin partner Tezo (the crafty Sod)

has had some amazing action fishing lures on the exeter canal again recently....

with over twenty big doubles showing and a 15-20lber being caught on every session! its a dirty job but someones gotta do it!! iv not fished exeter in a while and we both no its picked in monsters, none of the locals get much luck but we have always done VERY well!

the Biggest pike he's had in the last few weeks has been 23lb 6oz..... a very tidy Pike this time of year considering the weed you have to deal with on that venue!! very hit and hold fishing!

cant wait to get out there again ASAP!

North Devon Rays

Small eyed Ray and Bass!!

Im a bit of a sucker for Raymond bashing up north Devon..... something to do with standing in the surf with ya waders on and being really part of the fishing!! we fish mostly Putsborough as its a fantastic venue for Small eyed, blonde and Spotted Ray! its very simple fishing as long as ya have cloud cover as moon light will kill ya fishing.... the ray bashing up here is low water only with the bottom 2hours, 1hour slack and 3hours up the only time your get rays from the beach.

All you need is 12-13ft 4-6oz beach casters, and 25lb line. pully rigs are prefured with either a 4-5/0 single or two 4/0 pennel rigs! bait wise, the prime is fresh sandeel or frozen. with squid and mak sometimes workin well!

Iv done ok-ish ray fishin this season with plenty of small eyed to 9lb! most fish bein around 5lb though.... its good fishing with the bites bein really confident, always big rattles of the rod tip then monster slack liners! with the Bass always showing there faces for fun! also the good old Putsborough Poodle!! (dog fish!) but more and more recently lots of medium sized Congers!! right from the beach, i kid you not, cathcing conger in the surf!! with big bates like squid or mak your garrentied!

our last session seing 4 ray to me and two to my Dad, also 6 Bass, 4 Dogs and a small conger! always good fun on lighter gear

River Bashing!

River Culm Madness

Anyone who no's me No's i LOVE river piking......

me and Terry headed out to the Killerton section of the river Culm where we hav some really decent small floodland river fishing! this river twists and turns through some beautifull devon countryside and is my Fav venue to just stroll around and poke ya lures in all the little nooks and crannys!! with a massive head of Pike, Chub, Perch as well as the usual coarse fish.

this really is wild fishing at its best!! i was like a child in a sweet shop! ha ha

there really is allot of features here on this wicked river, you are spoilt for choice on swims to throw a plug or jelly into!

we walked across the field to our "secret" deep swims..... with fish strate away..... nothing massive biggest bein only seven pound but on a tiny river and full of snags, dont they HANG ON ha ha. with fish coming from every little snag we had 6 pike from one swim...! its a stretch around a mile long with bays, corners deep holes and a cracking old Mill wier pool!

we headed down to the mill pool where there was action on the first cast! again nothing massive but really enjoyable fishing on Bass gear from the states! we had 7-8 fish from the pool and a decent perch!

i cant tell you how wild and beautifull these small rivers are and crackin fun to fish, i recomend hittin the small rivers near you, your be amazed by the fish you can catch! we completed the big THREE Pike,Perch,Chub. all in one day on a small venue and good fun it was tooo!

One sunny evening!

managed a few hours out on the canal!

Me and tezo headed out for a few hours surface lure fishin, with poppers, walkers, chuggers u name it we tried it! the one lure that came out on top by far was the SwampFox in medium size! i stuck to wacky colours and tezo stuck to natural frog and mouse!

It was very hot and conditions got worse and worse, i no i cant complain about a bit of sun here in the lovely british summer but it was sooooooo hot! the fish just didnt want to play! with a few tiny jacks and perch showing! but all good fun all the same, as the afternoon went on we saw some more decent fish chasing and showing but still no decent hits..... i found a little over hanging hedge and banged my SwampFox under the branches with two winds on reel, BANG a fish of around 7-8lb! smashed my lure! with a head shake it was off, then again it charged and hit again! but....... with no luck this fish didnt want to no afterwards! GUTTIN

Time passed and things never really picked up! we started to head back to see wot our best swims had to offer now the light was fading we headed to a Bay thats full chocka block of lillies and there always fish over 15lb cruising the edges grabbin the hundreds of Rud and Roach, it looked amazing conditions couldnt get any better!! it screamed Pike! i chucked my lure over to the back of the bay and started twitchin it back slowely..... all of a sudden you could see thew lillies shake and swirl and thyen this massive wave swirled up behind the lure! this huge head just slammed my lure! this time it was on! and things went mental.... it screamed through the lillies tryin to tail walk and smash me into the snags! i only had my light USA bassin rod and tiny Baitcaster (shimano Chronarch 101bsv) things wer gettin hairy!

after 10mins or so of tug and war with this obvious double figure pike thing looked up on my side i was deffo winning this ultra light battle! i managed to turn it so it headed to the bank where Tezo was waitin to land her, we knew strate away it was a gooden when i saw terry struggle to pull her out! i lent over and tezo handed me this impressive summer beast! it was stunnin and even though it was not in the best condition it still looked crackin! once i returned it it swam off as if nothing had happend!

with the very next cast Terry had yet another double slam his lure and this one was well hooked as well! after 5mins of bullien this fish to stop it snaggin in the lillies it came off! guttin for terry but we had a wicked evenin! i just love summer surface lure bashing......

Been a while....

Not posted in a while, but had allot of fun out on the water!!

over recent months iv bin luck enough to get allot of different styles of fishing done, from my usual Lure antics to Ray fishing off the north devon coastline.
ill hopefully get on here allot over the next day or two, so ill keep the posts coming......
